I pull up to the detail shop and there's a black C8 in front.... my first thought was "wow, they really know how to polish a C3"

apparently I need to have a name for my car.... the lady who owns the C8 has named hers black widow. apparently 3 dead husbands contributed to her C8.... I can't even think of the words....

I had protector put on the hood in matte. Solves 2 issues - first chips but second it reduces hood glare

Drove it the 20 miles home, it ran okay but it's getting better - it'll even get better when I get the tune done

Have you considered a "Clear Bra" for the lower section?
I used a 3M product on the "little-one" and it worked great.
It does have a clear gloss look - but not as nice as you have there!

Cheers - Jim

the hood 'flatness' is paint protection. I thought about doing the nose but it ain't cheap and it already was at the shop 2 weeks.... need it back to get ready to race.

SBG ...to get ready to race.

ENVY - I'm stuck building a deck, adding pavers to widen the driveway, and a complete coolant flush on the Van...

BUT - steering and brakes next on the 'vette! Headers seem to fit with a "bit" of interference with steering rack mount.
It will work out. Cut and weld.

Cheers - Jim

not many pictures but a lot of progress.

hired an online programmer - RA Design Performance out of California. I thought he did just bugs (which isn't a bad thing at all, including an 8s bug) but he did a great job of getting my car to run right. No more self-programming. I also learned a lot about the system. Still have a rewire job to do but as of now the car is officially ready to appear in 12 days at the Optima Challenge in Portland

now all i need is a vehicle to haul it there....

how do you share the computers? like a teams meeting where he takes control of your lap top? i ask this because in my C5 I put in a Z06 differential and the guy that did it had a programmer tune the automatic transmission for the new gear ratio but he didnt do a very good job and it throws codes on ascending a big hill, it stays in lock up too long. does he have the ability to put a factory tune back on the trans? this is an area that is all new to me. thanks bob

Wouldn't you know, just yesterday I picked up a new trailer.
Sorry, I'm on the other end of the country!
And - Oh, yeah, I'm midway through a cooling system redux on the Tow-Van.
hmmm. "Vincent van Tow?" might work as a label.

use a sharing software where he controls the computer - it works really well and isn't laggy at all (which is the very impressive part). It's not like Teams - Teams is so laggy that it's usually not worth the effort.
I put a link below to them - I'd certainly call and ask him.

and update

Wednesday or Friday at the latest is the word from the shop for my truck returning

I can't praise RA Design Performance enough. I rewired the IACV controller to match the Chrysler requirements (basically move two wires in the pinned connector)

So far, he's spent conservatively 8 hours between Sunday and today getting this thing tuned - and is planning on spending even more getting it fully dialed in, even now, as is, I'd run it but his pushing to make it perfect really impresses me.

I didn't think I was going to make it. Car is tuned, detailed, truck is back (no front bumper) and my assistant kid is going to help at the event.

stupid little wing installed and tw200 tires on the car

Are you ready to rock? I am :)

I'll look.

RA Design sounds a lot like the fellow I used to "remote" tune my Solstice (RPM out of TX).
Very good service and all I needed was a good connection and follow instructions.
Close call on the run up to 100mph on local hwy - but the "State-ie" turned off early!
We "Mapped" the performance and I have "return" options as needed. Street/AX/etc..

Good luck this week!

Cheers - Jim

glad he helped....
in other news, at Optima Portland 2024

Tony Phillips - he's okay - not burned but pretty sore. His car is pretty famous and he's a really nice guy

but you folks have been encouraging me to move to a more managed type of racing. This is probably going to be the impetus.

I'm still waiting for pictures from the various photographers.... I have a great one of me spinning out on antifreeze....

The short report is I never got a full lap at speed on the track because of issues with other drivers. I did okay in D&E.... moved up from dead last to middle of the group. Autocross was about as expected since I had no practice this year. The braking challenge, my starter died in the 2nd round so none of my times were anything to write home about.

trusting others to take pictures.... sigh

question. Oversteering.... I've lowered pressure but still this car is tail happy.... as it has a terrible time doing a burnout (though once rolling I can lose traction to 100+ mph with ease.... I know I need more seat time but for the life of me, I don't get it.

You didn't say when. Entry, Exit, all of a sudden.
I did a quick scrounge through my "Track Notes" file and came up with what has been attributed to Carroll Smith. Attached pdf. May be of some use.

My sports racer developed a Throttle Overster - on entry. I'd turn-in, then abruptly drop throttle and brake and get the nose movement (tail swing). I could use it to point the nose where I wanted but "fixed it" by adjusting rear toe and being a bit smoother. If none of the items check out, just practice I guess.

Cheers - Jim

What you have is bad roll couple. Either spring rates front to back are off or roll bars are not matched. Try a 15/16" roll bar in front with no bar in the rear. F41 springs in front and back should get you in the ball park. I have some old F41 front springs if you want them. Sell them cheap.
