Found this big block how to on distributor install.

I’ll let you know if it doesn’t work.

I like his technique, but my gen V big block seem to need the oil pump indexed to 9:30, not 11:00.

Well, after much messing around, got the 75 fired up. Put in a new Msd billet distributor and cleaned up the wiring and soldered most joints.

The 502 in the Camaro fired right up and it had sat longer than this car. Couldn’t figure out why it would not fire. Found some info on rings drying out. Sprayed oil into all cylinders, rotated engine and let it sit a few days. Fired up, but what a smoke show.

I remember doing this with my Dad when we bought an old 56 Chevy that had been parked outside for years, but I think in that case the engine would not crank.

Anyway, 3 second shot in each cylinder and it fired.

So if you get an old project that cranks and cranks and has spark, try this.

Congratulations, having a vehicle that you can move abound under its own power is a big plus.

Thanks, agreed!

Well, this trick with the oil needed to regain compression was definitely a fluke that I found it. Probably the misc racing video thread is a good place for it. Might help someone get an old race car started.

YouTube’s algorithm kicked in, now I’m getting GT40 videos suggested. :)

My favorite racing series was Trans Am. I learned a lot from that YT video. I had no idea they were dipping Mustangs before Roger Penske. I wonder where the 2 original cars are today and how much they are worth.

I had to check w/AI. The two original Penske Camaros:

Ownership Details

Current Owner Status

Racing History

First Camaro Owned by a private collector. Participated in vintage racing events

Second Camaro Sold to various owners Raced in Group 2 events in Britain; restored to original specifications

Thought for sure they would be in a museum. How much are they worth?

Value of Original Sunoco Penske Camaros

The original Sunoco Penske Camaros from the Trans Am series are highly valued due to their historical significance and racing pedigree.

Current Valuation

  • Estimated Value: Over $1 million each
  • Recent Auction Example: A 1968 Chevrolet Sunoco Camaro sold for $990,000 at an auction in 2016.

$1 million seems like a bargain.
