Advertising on television often falls into neat, stereotypical categories; beer ads are funny, car ads are slick, men in household products ads are dumb, wives in electronics ads are shrews.
But Thailand is quietly becoming the world leader in a special niche: The tear-jerker. John Lewis, a British department store, has become renowned for its Christmas heart-warmers and tear-jerkers, and nearly every massive multinational from Google to Coca Cola has least produced at least one. Thailand’s ad industry, though, is taking them to the next level.
The genre is so popular in Thailand that companies write special, extended-length versions of tear-jerker commercials that run for several minutes, and go viral on YouTube and Facebook. Security camera company Vizer is the latest to pull at Thailand’s heartstrings—this ad, uploaded by the company on August 27, has already been viewed by 5.4 million people on Facebook and over 3 million on YouTube :

There are plenty of other examples out there, including this Thai father’s breakdown while watching his new baby, and this heart-breaking four-minute ad campaign to encourage hair donations for cancer survivors:

Here, a Thai Life Insurance ad tells the story of a young boy whose mother has cancer, and still manages to be uplifting:

Another from the same company tells a story of a younger child who has to skip school to help his mother sweep the streets:

But this 12-minute opus probably takes the Thailand tear-jerker crown. It is an advert for True Corporation, owner of Thailand’s largest cable TV and internet services, as well as one of the largest mobile networks in the country. Like the Vizer ad above, the company it advertises is far from life-and-death industries like life insurance, pensions, or healthcare, but it packs a hell of a punch nonetheless:

Which famous US General said in WW2 while reviewing his own troops:
"I don't know what they'll do to the enemy but they sure scare the **** out of me!"
This gun has been around for a while, and that's what it does for me. Especially when it could look so innocent in an x-ray of your bags at an airport.

Many years ago, wife had a overnight courier business running all the state of Florida, and many times I would go with her for safety/security/keep company, only one drop off was so bad I carried a gun......but the back roads at night, very light traffic, would be dozens of eyes reflecting back at us in the headlights, deer all over the place,....never did hit one, thankfully.....but back in '98 the state was on fire, like Ca. is today....and on a 4 lane drag, a minivan in front and to my left, he slowed down suddenly, and a deer ran out in front of the '72 shark, and took out both operating headlights so in with Ecklers sugar scoops stupid gal I was with was all upset about the stupid deer laying there, and not a damn word over my car.....HELL with HER.......last time I saw THAT bitch......

I think it's fairly common to fence off interstate highways with all gear to keep them from jumping.....but this gal with 3 deer attacks, how unlucky can one GET???:cry:

I could write a veryLONG boring post about the **** we kids pulled off decades ago.....you wooden believe it, anyway......go carts sliding around the corners like cars/kids today.... sleds down hill at almost 30* slope, to a creek at bottom of the hill....on a golf course, so a bridge over the creek if we chickened out.....but of course we had to build a ramp at bottom of the hill, to see if we could jump the creek.....many a time we walked home sopping WET in ~20f temps......much less all the aches and pains from the hits.......

A group on FB about the old daze in Bethesda Chevy Chase, back in the Day....talking about outside Wash DC, over 50 years ago.....pix and recollections.....one gal that is maybe 4? years younger than me, still lives in the region, but back when, we walked the same streets but when early double digit ages, I have NO recollection of her, at all, but she talks the same thing I do....exact street names and references.....the burb was bordered on the old Glenbrook Golf Course.....now the National Institutes of Health, Nat. Library of Medicine.....right across Wisconsin Ave from the old Naval Medical Center, now merged with Army Walter Reed .......53 years in that close region less than 20 miles anyway.....been a while.....:twitch:
