73' restomod project in Finland

Does anyone know, does any shop have available or manufacture stock replacement center rocker channels for bird cage??

Example ZIP has only inserts.. see link:

I know that Zip has the seat belt reinforcements for the birdcage,(they are the angle part welded to the inside floor of the cage) and the inset, but I couldnt find nothing about the rocker replacement.

I read about Caledonia, in Michigan who makes frame parts.

I dont think they have a web site and this is an add I found about them

Thanks, I'll try them.. :)

Something small happened today..

Are you sure you want to change the rockers??
From what I see, they dont look that bad, matter of fact, they are better than mine.

I would weld in insets for solidity if that is what worrying you and call it good.

remember all of this is covered in fiberglass.

Yes sir I'm sure if I'll find new ones. Yes they are covered but if I don't replace or restore all the necessary it will bothers me always.. Covered or not..

I'm speechless! Looks like this will be the definitive bird cage rebuilding thread! I admire your workmanship. :1st:

Wow indeed, not just take it down to the bare birdcage, take it down to the bare sections of sheet metal used to build a birdcage!! Awesome!

Yes sir, Tuomas you are a brave man LOL

I've seen that before, heres a link.

The guy galvanized or put somekind of coating over it.
Looks like cadnium

I just love this.

Keep it up and please, keep the pics coming.

We need more threads about birdcage repairs since it's the part of a C3 who is the most damaged and most overlooked.

I'm searching coating possibilities and black passivation could be one choice. So far the biggest problem is find enough big pool to do it in one piece..

I started to make some practice and memory refresh with fiberglass and carbon. First I needed small items to make molds.

Working with final finishing of painted pieces

Waxing them about 5 times

Gelcoat drying.

Fiberglass spreaded.(made few mistakes)

Molds removed. Obviously fresh pait was not enough dry, see original parts.

Next I'll finish the molds for actual carbon part and continue practising :D

Any advice welcomed!!!
