had an estimate of 499 dollars to tint my 79 i know its a pain to do but is it me or is that really high? anyone know a good tinter near melbourne fl?:bonkers:
any way a friend of mine said that the guy who tinted stuff for me in the past is now out of jail and he will do it next week. can't say much about his lifestyle but he is an excellent tinter.:yahoo:
When I brought the '78 home from Germany and was stationed in FL - I needed the same thing. Many DIY approaches were "paneled" with tint material overlays and looked like 5h1T! Then I found a drop in place piece of dark tinted perspex/lexan/poly I don't recall - that was over 30 years ago. (Do I sound like Gene? OMG!)
Any way, I bet on LEXAN - but the tint may be tough to order. The piece came rolled up, unrolled beautifully and fit like it was made for the job. When in place, tension from the shape of the window, and the lower rear storage valance. Bet you could fab one for a lot less than those prices. Mind you, there was some space between the insert and the window but it was DARK and cool in the FL Summer Sun!
Cheers - Jim
job done! got someone thru a friend $200.00 did a nice job said we will do it when you get here. i was pleased and they took pictures and asked if they could use it in there advertising, i was very flattered. lifetime warranty on labor and material. so with $299.00 dollars left over from the first estimate i bought an aluminum radiator AND still have money left.SCORE one for me!:thankyou:
