Home-made Rack & Pinion [LOTS OF PICS]

I realise this is not a current thread. Being a newbie here when I have the time I am reading older threads.

I have a recommendation to all that use heim joints, either on the track or on the street -put a HARDENED steel washer with an O.D. as large as the O.D. of the heim joint between the heim joint and the fastener, unless the heim joint is captured between 2 structural pieces.

YES, good idea, which is why I used stock tie rod ends...

By OD of the heim joint, do you mean a washer that would be the size of the "body" of the heim?
If this is so, then that would restrict most, if not all vertical movement. (at least with this style heim body)

"unless the heim joint is captured between two structural pieces"

So since mine is setup double shear, I do not need to do this? I still cant seem to figure out how it wouldnt restrict movement in a single shear setup either though.

The rod end safety washers look like this. The washer is also useful for protecting the forward rod end seal from splash.
