Just got a new carb that does not have any vacuum ports for vac advance. My manifold has one but that is covered up by the rear fuel bowl. Can I just drill a hole under the carb base in the manifold plenum and put a hose barb on that? Ive never seen one in the plenum, usually in a runner so Im wondering if theres a reason for that?

I don't see why not.

Somewhat related, The other day I found a fitting for vacuum hoses and it had at lest 6 ports on it. Every size imaginable. Looked like a little tree.

That's what we did with my intake, drilled it out just under the carb. on the driver side.
