A while back I ended up in a wrecking yard in the Mojave desert (long story). The owner showed me this old Studebaker salt flat car sitting in a dark corner. It still had its blown hemi and a C3 shaped nose (70-71). There was a plaque on the dash that said it went 270-something in 1976. Well, after some research, I found a picture of the car "back in the day". It went 271+ average both ways and had a one-way pass near 290 mph. Holy sh.....

Not sure. They had folks trying to build a fund to restore it. It was in the possession of Mr. George Calloway, known as the Mayor of El Mirage. He owns a big wrecking yard in the Mohave Desert just West of El Mirage. Hot Rod did an article on the yard, and there are 95 photos.
