Chrysler ultimatum, does this make sense?

You know what is funny about this?

The government tells Chrysler they MUST do this or they are cut off. No more money, and the end of Chrysler. So Fiat will do the deal. Fiat will get access to North American markets, former Chrysler plants will be building Fiat platforms. And Fiat will get the money from the government. We shouldn't pretend that this is a merger, it's a sale of assets and one of those assets is government money!

If this goes through, what's next? Obama tells Fiat to get rid of Ferrari and Maserati.

What the government said, without saying it, is that no amount of money can save Chrysler. Without a partner that makes small cars, MOPAR can't make it, no matter what else happens. Does anyone think otherwise?

Yes. The government does not get to dictate what cars Chrysler builds. If the market wants a small car, they will get a small car.

Evidence is people don't want small cars.

Yes, they do want smaller, more economical cars, just not the ones made here. That's why the foreign company's got such a foothold.
