Finally got this thing running and did the new cam/lifter break-in thingy. Tried to set the timing and found out I've got no vacuum advance. Distributor is a Mallory HEI.

The canister pulls in and holds vacuum just fine. But, the vacuum advance mechanism is way too tight on the shaft. It's like trying to turn the main water valve on the house.



If I take some 400 grit to the shaft, do I still want it to be kinda snug?
Or, should it slip on there like butter?
