T-top weights:Early vs late C3

I was told on another forum that late t-tops are lighter than the early ones. First time I ever heard that. Any truth to that?

My '73 fiberglass tops are about 14.4 lbs each. Don't know about other year models.

It wouldn't surprise me. After the ordeal last week where the glass was ripped from the frame on one of my tops I had the chance to inspect it. My tops were stock for '81 and I'm guessing the frame is magnesium. Without glass, I would be surprised if the frame weighs more than 2 pounds. I doubt the earlier tops are that light and I can't speak to FG at all.

Using my bathroom scale, I came up with 14 lbs each from my '69. I wonder if they became lighter when the latch design changed?

I came up with the same number, with the driver's side a few pounds lighter due to removing the headliner for helmet clearance.

The only real difference is the latch, I don't see a lot of weight loss there.
