pulling C3 halfshaft

I have a bad U-joint in the 82's left halfshaft. Can I get away with just dropping the bottom link to get enough slack to remove the halfshaft?
Thanx in advance, I'll be undoing bolts until it becomes obvious LOL

Came out easily through the top. Now we'll see if it goes back in as smoothly. I love this car!
