My new exhaust system just showed up from MagnaFlow. I needed a diy system so I didn't have to take my 'baby' and leave him at some shady muffler shop! Magnaflow has a Make an offer on the web site and free shipping. I paid nearly 1/2 or the suggested list price. Seemed pretty fair??

Did you get these directly from MagnaFlow? Their website states:

***The links below are MagnaFlow AUTHORIZED DEALERS. MagnaFlow does NOT sell direct to customers and cannot field questions about delivery, inventory or pricing related to these links. Please contact the companies as referenced in the links below.

Edit: Is MagnaFlo (as you have it written) a different company than MagnaFlow?

Just had a look at that website, no idea how much you paid for your C3 exhaust but their "list price" for the C6 exhaust parts is simply BS, they sell the mid section X-pipe for $399 and say list price is over $700.... you can buy this X-pipe anywhere for under $400...
Same for the catback system, their "list price' is over $2000... they sell it for $1299 which is what you pay almost anywhere else...

Cost

I got the entire big block system with hangers, clamps and all related hardware for just over $500.00. Seems like a fair deal at the time. I have to correct myself as it was $550. not $500.

Did you see the part where you can make them an offer? The system I ordered was listed at something around $850 and on sale for $650 ish. I offered them less and about an hour later I got a reply that my offer was accepted. I was 1/2 hoping they would just laugh at my offer but no!!

Removal of stock exhaust hanger?

Instructions say to remove the stock hanger that bolts to trans mount. As the new x pipe hits I have to go along with the directions. My question is do I need to shim the trans to trans mount an equal amount to make up for the removal of this or is it not that critical?

Yes, if it affects tailshaft height shim it up, you might have vibration issues if you don't.

550 for a complete stainless system is a steal for sure.

That bracket isn't thick enough to have an effect on driveline angles. It might be easier to just cut it off.

That's what I would do.

Marck, all the Magnaflow stuff is SS now. Richard Waitas said it was cheaper in the long run to just stock one type of product, and it prevents rusting while in storage. It does turn brown with use though.

That's because they use 400 series stainless, that stuff is even magnetic and it'll turn brown and ugly but it's a lot cheaper than the good stuff (304SS).....

Nothing wrong with 400 series SS - it will last a long time but it sure looks ugly after a year or so.....

Funny: I bought a Borla "replica" axle back sytem for the C6 and I have a Magnaflow X-pipe. The darn X-pipe was more expensive than the axle back system, the X-pipe is $400 and the Ebay replica (China) Borla was $350 shipped.... the X-pipe is brown and the cheap replica stuff is shiny as it was the day I installed it....:huh::banghead::blush:

409? Titanium stabilized Ferritc (hence magnetic) steel, not austenitic chromium. That's ugly stainless, commonly used on cat cons and OEM headers.

I only use 3xx series stainless.

Marck, Do you know if the pickling solutions that are used to clean up weld discoloration in stainless will work on 400 series?
