Cam duration

I was told to use 1.6 roller tip rockers would open up the duration.

I'm not sure about the duration,but it will change the lift.

I agree, it changes duration at the valve at a specific lift point. The rule of thumb seems to be 2 degrees for every .1 ratio on the rocker.
