I installed these yesterday. They are Polk DB651 (6 1/2"). They complement Pioneer 4 x 6"s in the upper dashpad. The head unit is a KHE-300 (50W x 4) with MP3 jack. Pretty decent sound.

Do you think this would work with a clutch pedal ?

Currently I have 6/12" speakers in the door panels, when I eventually replace the panels I'm not sure if I want to cut up the new panels.... I'd rather have the speakers down there but they might get in the way when pressing the clutch....

The best I can do is this pic. You have to make the measurements.

Arthur's shopping list: two Ebay kickpanels, dynamat, two speakers. Thanks for sharing.

Nice, nice mod. I am very happy with the outcome. I hit the IPod up today in the garage and Wow!. My first drive of the season is tomorrow. I am ... well there is a phrase for it that borders on porn.

I have two spare kickpanels somewhere.... I'll give it a try, worst case I can sell them to somebody with automatic and small feet.... size 11 might be a problem..... :banghead:

I have size 13s and surgery on the brake pedal was needed.

I never think of that little detail, but see that hump on the left there..some 15 years ago, I cut that outta my car when doing the '78+ TT wheel install, that gave me a tad more room, for then, with swinging the firewall forward, of course it's still absent....

:smash:

I got out for an hour today. First ride of the year to test all systems. All OK. The shortened brake pedal sure makes a difference. The Wife thinks the stereo is too loud?

If you can hear the stereo, then your exhaust system needs some work:lol::lol:

That is why I don't have a sound system, so I don't have to work on the exhaust....

There's room in the '79 for speakers in the kick panels, just don't get overly ambitious. I believe that you can go up to a 5" round speaker without mods and the original kick panel covers will go right back in. What you DO have to watch out for is the plunger switch for the door, it is close by.

Subwoofer is now in. Adds some nice bass to the system. Bring on summer.

*Edit* - Very nice sound with some head unit and subwoofer balancing. Not a science, just tweaking. But it rocks the Wife's bottom (seat please) so she is OK with it....
