AC dryer/accumulator, whats inside them?

I`m wondering what is inside an AC dryer/accumulator and can it be remover easily? I`m thinking about using one (with some mods) as a breather can for the dry sump tank on my project race car. thanks in advance

If left open can they go bad? I had my caps off a couple of days fitting hoses up before mounting the compressor. How can they be tested?

they're usually just capped with these press in platic caps when thy're at the parts store.... I would not want to leave the dryer open in Florida humidity.... you'll have to suck a vacuum on the system so that moisture can boil off, if the dryer is wet then you might have to keep the vacuum on the system for two days.... or more.....
