TT is correct- when you touch the brakes the TCC drops out. As far as shifting from 1-2-3 that fast, it's possible the TV cable has stretched and needs to be adjusted. The shifts on a 700R4 should happen:
1-2 from 8-14 MPH
2-3 from 20-25 MPH
3-4 from 35-45 MPH
Just rough numbers, there are a lot of variables that will affect the shft points.
I'd start by resetting the TV cable and looking at the condition of the trans fluid.
good advice. If the shifts all happen in rapid succession at 20 mph you have valve body and or tv cable problems.
NOT necessarily, I can only comment on my 700 experiences in this '72, I had the tranny built here in Florida in '97, for the overdrive...I went through the short shifting for a good while, and finally modded the governor, by removing about 1/2 the weights on it....
the thing had a Superior/Fairbanks shift kit in it.....I was never totally happy with the performance, and was never able to get it to hold first gear very well, about 1/2 way across the street it would be into 2nd gear, engine lugging, far better with a very snug throttle cable, and the governaor mods...but when I nailed it on the freeway at say 80 mph, it would insist on downshifting into 3rd and so the engine was winding up pretty good for no real reason, very irritating...
BUT, I lived with it not knowing any other options...the tranny was a late '87 run and from like a truck or Caprice...never did find out what specific vehicle....when the 3/4 clutch pack went again, having replaced it once, along with the 1/2 band.....I took it outta there, and put a 200 in there, having rebuilt it myself in the garage, decided to take the time to learn something:quote:.....one thing to do is always replace the TCC solenoid, :cussing:
So I wonder about that short shifting and your rear gear ratio, mine has always been 336, and a 3400 lbs car, if you tranny is set for a heavy car and mild rear, it sees NO load on it, so wants to short shift....
TimAT, knows much more than me, and we have discussed this in retrospect, but I didn't meet Tim untill after the 200 was in there a couple years....
OH, edit....the shift kits to use are TRANS GO, they know, the rest are junk IMO....I put one in this 200 and that bastard SHIFTS....on time at the right time, every time.....
