    C8 Big Block

Yeah, given what he's spent on the car and all the custom parts, I'm a bit perplexed why he didn't just spend a bit more of his pocket change and get an aluminum block. It would make for a better vehicle weight comparison after he got everything put back together.

    Gm type 2 pumps

I'm running a type 2 pump and vee pulley on my '69. It's not a remote reservoir, but the basic pump is the same AFAIK. FWIW, the first type 2 pump I ran was off an '89 Pontiac Sunbird (or whatever was the Pontiac sister of the Chevy Cavalier). It came with a vee pulley. I later got an aluminum...

    Misc Vintage Racing Clips

I still have the Eldon track I got for Christmas when I was about eight, and about forty additional feet of track I accumulated after that. Been meaning to set up a track again in the basement for several years but my plans (on everything!) always seem to take three times longer than I initially...

    Misc Vintage Racing Clips

I'm jealous about your opportunity to have actually seen the Chaparrals in action. I've been a fan since I was a young kid, but have never actually seen any of the cars in person. IIRC I've got the 2C and 2D in 1/32 scale slot cars boxed up somewhere from the last move, although the 2E and 2F...

Ya caught my attention with the Chaparral body statement. What's some details on that?

    Kindig 53 Corvette Ridler Award

The undocumented fabricator in me is impressed at the ability/skill of Kindig's crew. They do some unique projects at times. OTOH, the documented engineer in me just sees expensive potted plants that will require frequent dusting. JMHO

Well, my parsimony paid off. Got my "pre-owned and generically priced" 26mm hollow front swaybar (off an '89 C4) finally installed. Went online to buy some poly bushings for it, and for some damn reason 26mm generic poly kits are noticeably more expensive than other kits of similar size range...

Project Elvira – Intro and Update

Enjoyed the update and pics. (y)

Well, scratch the rotor swap idea for reduced weight. Went to the junkyard today and pulled rear rotors off an '11 Buick Regal and an '85 Corvette. The Corvette had drilled aftermarket rotors, and some wear, but the Buick rotors had similar wear. I weighed them both with my HF hanging scale, and...

Weight reduction: Running out of ideas.

Had a spa/mental-health day today, roaming my favorite junkyard. Looked around for parts for a few project cars. Was surprised to find another C4 (an '85) in the yard. Last time I was there I pulled some parts off an '89 C4. I checked dozens of GM intermediate size cars looking for 11.5" solid...

Weight reduction: Running out of ideas.

I currently have stock size early C4 rotors (11.5" by .81"), so I'm focusing on similar diameter rotors for this substitution, and possibly thinner widths or offsets. I don't want to go to 11.75" as these will be heavier, have a higher MoI, require fabrication of new caliper mounts, and slightly...

Thanks, I'll look into these. From the time I've spent looking at different rotor candidates I've pretty much accepted that if I do find a noticeably lighter part I'll end up having to either redrill the bolt circle, hog out the center hole, or cut down the outside diameter.

Thank you. (y) The sense of the improvement in acceleration due to the reduced weight seems to vanish rather quickly, as acceleration seems to be the first thing that one gets "used to" in a performance car. I enjoy the improvement in cornering speeds, as I've also been gradually learning more...

Weight reduction: Running out of ideas.

Been looking at a bunch of brake websites to see if I can find a lighter rear rotor package, but so far nothing is jumping out as noticeably lighter. The 11.5" (stock early C4 size/diameter) non-vented rotors I've looked at either don't weigh much different than the stock C4 vented rotors, or...

    EV News

I can attest to the basic accuracy of this graph (although I think Kia should be a bit higher in that graph). Prior to my becoming a non-productive member of society, I spent multiple decades in a town with both GM and Chrysler parts manufacturing plants. It was common knowledge/experience that...

Weight reduction: Running out of ideas.

We're definitely on the same page regarding unsprung weight and rotating mass/MoI. Reducing mass is almost always desirable. Due to my self imposed restriction on bodywork modifications and consumables spending, I'm limited on tire/wheel sizes I can fit on my car, hence part of the reason for...

Weight reduction: Running out of ideas.

I honestly don't know. My guess would be somewhere in the 3400# ballpark. In addition to all the usual steel and cast iron original parts in these antiques, my car had the factory steel wheels, of course, but it also had those outrageously heavy optional wheel covers. I was working at a gas...

Weight reduction: Running out of ideas.

Stats, currently the car is about 2690# with 4-6 gallons of fuel (and no driver). The last time I weighed the car it was 2720#, and I've pulled about 30# off the car with lighter or modified parts. I pull weight off any place I can safely do so, and as a result I'm at roughly a 1400/1300 F/R and...
