The pump is a very easily rebuildable element, first thing I rebuilt in my resto. From what I've read the whine it often cause by air in the system. Ideally you'd want it hook the pump reservoir to a source of vacuum. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egzQYcxaPGU
