    Flat spotting

Flat spotting. I bought my Cooper Cobra GT's in 2021. After much investigation I have determined that the tires are out of round and are the most likely source of the harsh ride and vibrations I am experiencing. Your thoughts? I only drive the car about 1500 miles per year.

    Harsh ride

1979 Corvette New BP383 engine, new 5 speed TKX, driveshaft balanced, bellhousing indexed, runs and shifts beautifully. New trailing arms (not rebuilt). Rebuilt upper and lower control arms with Moog parts, all rubber, no poly parts. New sway bar bushings too. Borgeson steering conversion...

    Cabin vent heat fix

A lot of us suffer with hot air coming out of the vents. I did an internet search and found an article about a (hot water) shut off valve located behind the glove box (my car is a '79). If you remove the glove box liner you will see a cream colored plastic plunger switch, it is rectangular in...

    It only took 20 years

Six engines, three transmissions and in retrospect - a full restoration. Everything has been replaced. Now powered by a Blue Print 383 (470 h.p. 490 tq.) backed by a Tremec TKX and 355 rear gears. It's the same recipe in a lot of C3's but I like it a lot, it works well.

Holley 4150 troubleshoot and tune questions

Holley 4150 750 CFM tuning questions. I rebuilt the carburetor last week. During disassembly I found that the secondary power valve has a plug installed. My primary jets are 71's and the secondaries are 80's (mechanical secondaries). After rebuilding and tuning I found that the idle mixture...

    Stumble @ Cruise

I have a fresh 355 with a mild build (355 hp, 390 tq.) roller cam, 9 to 1 compression, air gap intake manifold topped with a Holley 4150. Vacuum is at 16 inches, idle @ 750 rpm. Idle is great and the engine runs strong and smooth. When cruising on the highway, if I accelerate lightly there is a...

    Air conditioning overhaul questions

R 12 is now considered next to unobtanium. My '79's A/C system has lost it's charge and needs restoring. What do I need to do to get my A/C working well with R 134? I have tried looking into various companies like Vintage Air and Old Air Products but they do not have a kit for the '79's. Any...

    It never ends

So the 79 has been sitting for a few years and I finally got the engine and trans in and get the car on the road for a test ride. About 3 blocks from the house the trailing arm bushing decided 40 years was enough. Back to the house, order the parts, replace the bushing and shims. Test ride, 1...

    Wiper failure

You have all heard this before - It worked when I parked the car a few years ago. Well, it's true, the wipers worked fine before the engine was replaced. All of the wiring is intact and there is power to the motor. The pump runs when the switch is pressed but no movement from the wipers. Any ideas?

    Been away for a while

I looked at the inspection sticker on my 'Vette on Sunday, it is dated for 2011. That is how long it has been in the garage in a state of disrepair. I am glad to say that it is close to being all back together. The engine and trans are in, the seats are back in and soon it will be time for...

    I miss Her sometimes

The title has two meanings. One brings to mind a joke I saw on TV one day. The Comedian said it was a poem he wrote called "I miss her some times". It went like this.... I ran in to an old girl friend of mine the other day Then I backed up and ran in to her again I miss her sometimes And...

    Machine shop rant

Many of you have read about the smoke issues I have had with the 383 I had built for my 79 Corvette. Recently I had the motor removed and disassembled and sent to yet another machine shop. Here is what they found - Cylinders out of round, deck not square and the wrong piston rings. All of this...

    383 R and R

First, just a moment of remembrance for those lost on this infamous day... May no one suffer such an indignity ever again... I've been away for a while, waiting to get my ducks in a row so I can get the engine rebuilt. Well that day is here. The 383 that I had built and installed years ago ran...

    Coming back

I've been away for a while. Personal stuff was a bit daunting for a while but most of that is behind now. The '79 (Christine) was in the garage fending off the mice for the last 3-4 years waiting for her turn at being cared for. Well that day is almost here. Tomorrow I am bringing in my son and...
