I haven't kept up with the newest generation of GM engines. The engine that is recalled is an L87. The issue seems to be the engine lubrication that causes them to seize up. Or, as GM refers to the problem "loss of propulsion". Pretty serious problem.

Saw this illustration in the film strip across the top of the page that shows the torsional rigidity of a 62 vs. 63 frame. If I recall correctly I think a modern (designed in the last 30-40 years) unibody car has a minimum 10,000 Lbs.ft/degree rigidity. Does that sound right?

I got the $15 GPS speedo. I had pretty low expectations for it but was pleasantly surprised that it was truly a plug and play device. Plugged it in and less than a minute later I had a speedo. Look pretty accurate but there is a fraction of a second lag but not really at highway or steady...
