Brake "failure" oddity that has me scratching my head.

No, I've never put silicone fluid in any of my cars.

Weight reduction: Running out of ideas.

I've looked at those small diameter setups. They're fantastic in every way, except when taking off from a standstill. As I mentioned earlier, my car is still a licensed street car, and dealing with stop signs and traffic is still a concern. I presently have the 10.5" 14# L88 flywheel, a 13#...

Weight reduction: Running out of ideas.

My current setup is an '84 C4 booster (smallest OD of the C4 boosters, needed to clear my valve cover, and half the weight of a C3 booster), and a C5 aluminum m/c (about 1# with a 1" piston). My current engine combination idles at about 12" of vacuum, as it's also a licensed street car. This...

Brake "failure" oddity that has me scratching my head.

Thanks, yes I recently bought one of those. (y) I spent some time today thinking about the booster operation, and I have a couple ideas on how to check a few aspects of the high and low pressure sides of the booster. I'll be trying to get that done this week.

    Damn, that looks nice!

Brake "failure" oddity that has me scratching my head.

The factory setup on my car has that large size hose going from the right side valve cover up to the air filter base, and the PCV valve draws out of the drivers side valve cover. I've reworked/relocated the PCV valve vacuum source to a couple threaded holes that enter the plenum of the...

Brake "failure" oddity that has me scratching my head.

I am definitely going to look at the checkvalve. My booster is an '84 Corvette unit (small and light).

Brake "failure" oddity that has me scratching my head.

I don't believe the fluid was boiling, as I had a firm high pedal throughout all this, but I'm putting fresh fluid in it this week anyway just to give me a bit more peace of mind. I'll keep the vacuum reservoir option in mind.

Brake "failure" oddity that has me scratching my head.

I'll confess I've never had any cause to put my hand on the master cylinder before, so I don't know if it's a common occurrence or not with my car. It was an 80* day, and I had spent about 15 minutes out on the track, so the engine and coolant temps were about 210*. I have some aluminum sheets...

Brake "failure" oddity that has me scratching my head.

At the track day last week the brakes were fantastic when first applied coming up to the corner. If I did a quick second application of the brakes there seemed to be little to no deceleration going on. The pedal was high and firm at both the first and second application. It just felt like a...

Weight reduction: Running out of ideas.

Enjoyed a track day last week. The rear suspension geometry changes and the front sway bar reduction really helped the car rotate in the corners, and to be noticeably more steady during heavy braking. The car just seemed to go where I aimed the steering wheel. With a big block this car...

    C8 Big Block

Yeah, given what he's spent on the car and all the custom parts, I'm a bit perplexed why he didn't just spend a bit more of his pocket change and get an aluminum block. It would make for a better vehicle weight comparison after he got everything put back together.

    Gm type 2 pumps

I'm running a type 2 pump and vee pulley on my '69. It's not a remote reservoir, but the basic pump is the same AFAIK. FWIW, the first type 2 pump I ran was off an '89 Pontiac Sunbird (or whatever was the Pontiac sister of the Chevy Cavalier). It came with a vee pulley. I later got an aluminum...

    Misc Vintage Racing Clips

I still have the Eldon track I got for Christmas when I was about eight, and about forty additional feet of track I accumulated after that. Been meaning to set up a track again in the basement for several years but my plans (on everything!) always seem to take three times longer than I initially...

    Misc Vintage Racing Clips

I'm jealous about your opportunity to have actually seen the Chaparrals in action. I've been a fan since I was a young kid, but have never actually seen any of the cars in person. IIRC I've got the 2C and 2D in 1/32 scale slot cars boxed up somewhere from the last move, although the 2E and 2F...

    Kindig 53 Corvette Ridler Award

The undocumented fabricator in me is impressed at the ability/skill of Kindig's crew. They do some unique projects at times. OTOH, the documented engineer in me just sees expensive potted plants that will require frequent dusting. JMHO

Weight reduction: Running out of ideas.

Well, my parsimony paid off. Got my "pre-owned and generically priced" 26mm hollow front swaybar (off an '89 C4) finally installed. Went online to buy some poly bushings for it, and for some damn reason 26mm generic poly kits are noticeably more expensive than other kits of similar size range...
