speed ohmeter cable

Need some info for installing a new speed ohmeter cable on 74.

What do you need? With no cruise control, the cable is 72" long, has a screw type connection at the trans and a snap-in connection at the speedometer head. You'll need to save and reuse the grommet that seals it thru the firewall or find a new one.
To remove the old cable from the speedo, depress the clip at the bottom while puchng the cable toward the speedo head, then pull.

What I also need to know what is the best way to access the cable on the back of the speed ohmeter.
Do I need to drop the dash?

You get a box of Band-Aids and a shot of Jack Daniels. Lay upside down under the dash and jam your hand up in there and yank it out. Once pulled, use the Band-Aids and take the shot.

I'd suggest more than one shot of Jack- you'll need to disinfect the places you're going to need to apply the Band-Aids.

2 people make it easier- one outside to push the speedo cable in while you press the clip, and then to pull the cable out while you hold it.

Its best if you have someone on the engine side that can push in on the cable and then pull when you release the clip on the back of the speedo. I have a simple tool that I made many years ago that follows the cable up to the back of the speedo and pushes on the clip. I'll take a pic of it , but not sure if I can use my photobucket to post it here.
