Valve cover breather

Hi guys,
first apologized me for my bad english.
I have to change my old breather for a new one. but I don't find the size in the catalogue.
In this moment I'm praparing a order from Summit (gasket, heatr core, ecc) and I'm glad to have a new solution about the breather.

In your opinion, I have to mantain the kind of breather I have? Is better to apply a gromet and a different kind of breather attachment?

Sorry but, for you this gasket ( http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FEL-30060/ ) is correct for the "neck" (I don't know the correct name)in the pics attach?

I ask you that because I had changed the thermostat for the winter and the "neck" give me problems. I have see a "wrincles" in the base of the neck and it have a base irregular and was not water proof. I have to do a new gasket and put a lot of "red glue" for have the water proof.

After this operation I see vapor on the front shield and I find a little leak from the heat core.

The breather you show appears to not need a grommet. Measure your valve cover opening and buy a grommet and breather to fit that size. Summit tech department can check part compatibility for you and before placing your order. I prefer the breather/grommet myself. I would avoid the grommet with the built in baffle. BTW...if you are in the USA, any of the big parts houses in your town should have grommets, breathers and gaskets in stock.

The thermostat housing gasket you show appears to be correct for your application, but best to check with Summit tech before placing the order. Have your VC hole size available to get the correct size breather/grommet.

in the first pic you can see the hole in the valve cover while I misure. The diameter is 1,1/8 in (2.9 cm) and the summit department say to me the don't have brather without gromet for my car. I think there was a missunderstanding. I think I will use gromet and breather because is more simple to remove and clean.

I spoke with a tech at Jeg's and he has a set of the same aluminum M/T covers as you show. After i suggested opening your hole to 1 1/4 inches, he agreed and said that is what he had done to his. In the world of valve cover breathers, a 1 1/4 inch opening has a world of breathers and grommets available. If you can locate a 1 1/8 x 3/4 grommet, you know where to find the breather. If you bore your cover to a 1 1/4 inch hole the world is your oyster, so to speak. The choice is yours and i hope this helps.

I can buy this gasket for raplace the old one ( http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FPP-1630/ ) and in this time is possible to make some ceck (I don't know which one).

In you opinion which is the best size for overbore my valve cover? My old brather don't exist at yet?

I can buy this gasket for raplace the old one ( http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FPP-1630/ ) and in this time is possible to make some ceck (I don't know which one).

To open up your valve cover breather opening, you will need to remove the valve cover. If you have a reusable gasket under it, like a fel-pro, you won't need a new gasket. Be sure to place the same cover on the same gasket orientated the same way. If you decide to go with the 1" breather stem and gasket for a 1/4 inch hole, buy them first. If you don't have access to a 1.25 inch drill bit, you can scribe a 1 1/4 inch opening around the existing 1 1/8 hole and open it up the hard way. You can use a die grinder, or rat tail file and slowly open it up until the grommet you get fits. Keep the opening as square as possible and smooth the finish with some paper. Do not remove material beyond the scribed line and test for grommet fit as you come close. A little silicone sealer on the inside of the grommet will help it seal around the cover opening

This is important, measure the thickness of the aluminum material around the hole. You want a grommet that will fit that thickness. Some grommets are designed for a thin sheet metal valve cover and won't seal an aluminum cover that is say 1/4 inch thick. Before you order, explain what you have and get parts that will work for your application the first time. I hope this is clear and it works out for you.

Thanks, very clear explaination.

I think I will remove the 2 valve cover for do the same job. In the right valve cover I have the breather, in the left I have the pcv valve directly connect to the carburator vacum port. I'm not sure if there is a sense for the air inside the engine. Now the air come in from the right side( passenger side) to the left (driver side).

In the past the pcv have not vacum and I saw a lot of "gas" go out from the breather. Now, with corret vacum at the pcv, there isn't this "thing" abot the "vapor". I think I have bolw-by and the oil pressure is alwais around 70 psi up 2000 rpm.
