In this cut-away image of the passenger side of a TH350 transmission you can see a yellow spring behind the round cover. That spring broke on mine and beat up the cover and seal causing a huge fluid leak. Is there a chance this spring, seal and cover can simply be replaced and live happily ever after? If so, is there a place I can buy just these parts? Is there a passage from the spring area into the transmission that broken pieces could have gone to cause more havoc? Is there a common reason this spring breaks?

That is the accumulator for one of the shifts- I don't remember if it's 1-2 or 2-3. Either way, that spring breaking is not an uncommon event. Replace the spring, cover and seal, and inspect the piston for damage. Replace the seals if needed. There is a passage under the piston, make sure it's not plugged if there is a bunch of trash in there. Other than that, drive on..
