one thing I should have done before is rebuild this carb... ah well, it's a holley, it's pretty simple to rebuild
IMG_0285_zps0a5a2487.jpg

a clean bench is an abomination
IMG_0286_zpsffee2556.jpg

850 being used as a rag to keep crap out of the intake
IMG_0287_zpse98028bb.jpg

pretty, shiney bits (after carb clean)
IMG_0288_zps3d351dbe.jpg

I wish I could put this closer to the tank but that's just not going to happen... fortunately, it's lower than the tank so once it's primed, it won't have to work that hard
IMG_0289_zps48f07ccd.jpg

no, I have a wall-full of carbs - that's an 850 that was the easiest to reach.... the rags were farther away - it was a lazy thing :surrender:

almost like I know how to do this

IMG_0292_zps1f18b6ab.jpg
yesterday I finished attaching it to the motor and doing the plumbing. Of course, I packaged up the EFI without taking the throttle pin off... anyway, tomorrow, wire the fuel pump and then set the pressure and float levels, then tune.....
I'm going to be 100% cocky - I think I won't have to change anything from my initial settings (70/78 jets, 12 power valves - 6.5 from 5.5 rear, silver spring on the vacuum canister)

and yep, things things scream Chinese...

because I simply must test the stock rod bolts... I'll add this to my Corvette on Sunday

the first, and most important test of aluminum heads is the sniff test. For those of you who don't have a bloodhound, I'm not sure how you adequately perform this

these things are amazing, for less than $600 delivered - notice, it's also drilled for either the Vortec or the old-style intake
PA100001_zpsf7df6b8f.jpg

for those who don't, I suggest shop slippers

the important red-filter test
PA100005_zpsd54cc70a.jpg

These things are pretty nice. They have cheap springs on them, they aren't blended at all and there is a bit of casting flash - they aren't machined at all except what is required - which actually tells a good story about their casting process.... good grief, these things are good castings (no big divots anywhere or poor mold prep), 2.05 intake, heads. They use the vortec design, you can get with angle or straight plug, and have old-school valve cover bolt pattern (which is cool since I have finned valve covers I want to put on my C3). I'm really impressed. $579 on ebay.

I may, actually, pull the motor and put ARP rod bolts on the bottom end... naw. I just have to be careful and keep my 5500 rev limiter firmly in place.

those look nice, not all Chinese products are crap. this new global economy has lots of twists and turns to it, your shop mocassins remind me of my continuous yelling at the kids not to walk around our construction site with flip flops on.....well turns out my crocs didn't offer much protection when stepping on a roofing nail either....I pulled the nail out of my foot when no one was looking and we kept that one our little secret and started wearing boots

I've worn OSHA approved, steel-toed flip flops; generally they go with the OSHA approved shorts.

I was in Dubai two years ago and we stopped in at an Ace Hardware just for kicks. They actually had steel toed sandals there! We have to wear steel toed boots, hard hats, etc out in the plant at work, so seeing this was pretty funny. Several contractors got sent away for wearing sandals to the plant. Maybe the steel toe ones might have worked... ;-)

Anyway, very interested in seeing how these heads work out for you. That's definitely dirt cheap. Never thought I'd see a pair of BRAND NEW aluminum SBC heads go for $579 a pair. Even if you have to replace the springs, which we often have to do anyway if we have a big cam, you're still ahead of the game.

here it is with iron
PA120001_zps1b1b2a2f.jpg

boy, look at the poor maintenance there

apparently the new head picture didn't turn out... oh well, after dinner I'll finish this up and get pics

that's too much of a cobra rip off

I thought of you when I took these pictures, 47 olds

still :)

I did get a bit more done tonight, but I need to order the right intake gaskets... so it takes a couple more days, it's not suppose to be Corvette weather until July 5th....
PA130005_zpsde0d7c45.jpg

cute thing, the stock gaskets don't fit because the alignment holes are a bit off
if I had an old-style intake, these gaskets would work
PA130006_zps15486bbf.jpg

it is cool that they made them adaptable to either centerbolt heads or parameter bolt; and also, Vortec intakes....

PA130007_zps71cccdfe.jpg

and no, they are not going to stay red

sooooo.... time for some maintenance... or, how to fix a clutch multiple times

land cruiser out of the way
P4270006_zps4yw3jbvm.jpg

2 9/16 wrenches, and a phillips driver on my drill gun
P4270007_zpszcrg0ps5.jpg

so I am selling the car, and I would have been sad to see this bellhousing go away since it's a BOP AND chevrolet bellhousing
P4270008_zpsxwdofe5l.jpg

not a SFI bellhousing, but it still will protect your legs if things go boom
P4270009_zpsvjsgwqut.jpg

so here's the issue - the corvette arm is on the top
P4270010_zpsqi8nfh2p.jpg
the one on the bottom was what I was using - it hit the floorboard, thus not allowing the clutch to completely disengage

new bellhousing in place, but I needed to stop and think how I'm going to put the slave cylinder in place and whether or not I need to create a touch more room for the clutch arm (hits the bellhousing)
P4270011_zps2zmcz1lw.jpg

I'll finish it tomorrow night - then solve a gas smell and put a trim back on the passenger side... Regis got irritated at me because it was missing... he's such a slave driver
