~185k miles on wife's alternator, '99 Escort....it finally shit the grip, and ran up the flag....so every parts house from NAPN on down the list want 135 bux exchange on them....plus 7% tax of course....
best price I can get maybe 85 bux+ tax.....from a buddy with connections in the parts industry....and that is not a given....
so off to the local rebuilder, nice old retarred guy....15 bux + tax for a new brush assy, and let the bad looking commutator go...he says plenty of metal left, and good for another 50k miles....car only gets maybe 8k/year now....
that says something about the margins in rebuilding..../sales....
