new build pics of 409

My old carb was giving me some fits last year with trying to keep it in tune when it got hot. It would start running rich, well after milling the choke tower off,it is running real rich now, must have a crack in it some where. Have a new carb that should be here monday, and then we are going on the road :yahoo:

The 100LL is easier on the rubber stuff than that ethanol bug juice is. IT may not make the same power as all out 110 octane race gas, but for $1.00 a gallon less, I'll suffer.

I can deal with a minute difference in power output. I'm just looking for additional detonation resistance (compared to running the 91 octane pump stuff) and something that won't eat up the "rubbery" parts in the system.

I'll have to get a bit of that stuff prior to the next track day to mix with the cans of pump stuff I take along.

Thanks for the info guys, and I apologize for the temporary hijack.

IT LIVES!!!!!
It fired up pretty easy. Need to pull the dist and re stab it. and adjust the carb.I let it run for about 10 minutes and then shut it down, need to to do some tuning before i start it back up. It sounded very good, had it idling at 1500rpm,found no leaks, which is always good.

check valve?

That is a GZ Motor sport vacuum pump,on the drivers valve cover you will see a regulator valve so it does not pull to much vacuum.

Yes. in the passenger fender mounted low by the vent is a catch can with a breather on it. I have it set to hold 5inHG at idle, and to not go over 12in HG at full throttle. pull to much vacuum and you can starve the wrist pins of oil,and suck the gaskets out.

Took the car out and put about 5 miles on it. came back home changed the oil,ran the valves, put the hood back on,did some tuning, took it out drove again about 15 miles, and all is checking out well. The wife and i are going to take it out put some miles on it tonight. So far,So good.

Any up dates??

I have a 100 miles on it now, some in town some running down the hi way. have used about 10-12 gallons so far,i think . 9-10 mpg maybe, thats not to bad,is it?
Mike. i will have it out saturday, will give you a call before i leave the house to see if you are home, i know where you are located at.

And so far,no problems to speak of.

Better than the last one. The rear main on that one leaked at the first start.

:hunter:

Yea, dont remind me of that.
Wen by Mikes house today (69427) visited him for a while. He has some nice projects going on in his shop.
Hooked the vacuum gauge up to the carb today, and got the timing light out and did a little tuning. everything was pretty close.
And the car is running great.

Put some baffles in the side the side pipes. got these from Jegs.

I did not put those caps on that you can use,i think it sounds great, the wife said i should get my money back :banghead:

Oh heck yeah. I did a nice little 1st,2nd,3rd,4th gear burn out just last night. curiosity was getting the best of me,so i just had to see what it would do. i was not disappointed

Now come on! we need a video of that.

Hey there should be a section in the forum where burnouts.... hahumm sorry, "proper engine, driveline etc testing" should be posted.
