from the youtube discription:

I shot this video of 2 Corvettes drag racing on my way to pick up our Thanksgiving Turkey. I had a feeling something bad was going to happen b/c of the conditions and testosterone flowing between these two. No one was hurt, only the drivers egos.
Edit: I'm getting a lot of flack about the gum smacking. For the record I had a sinus infection and was chewing some minty gum to clear things up. Couldn't breathe through the nose so had to keep the mouth open. Also, gum smacking sounds louder in a silent truck with an iphone right next to your face just but yeah it's kinda annoying...sorry again :)
(I Cut off the video short b/c I'm an idiot and was wrapped up in the moment...sorry :)

So how did the right hand dufus lose control of his car on a perfectly smooth straight street with just a mild curve. He seemed to have the auto trans so throttle oversteer doesn't first jump to mind.

My guess....Took off in 1st, then shifted into second at about 6000rpm.

I saw the video a couple of days ago.
Did anyone else click the bicycle wheel video to the right?

Any speculation as to why the guy in the C5 lost control? I thought traction control would prevent this, did he perhaps have Traction Control turned off?

My worst experience so far was in my 69 with a clone L88 (compression reduced to 11.5:1) and a Richmond 5 speed. I think I might have got about 30 degrees sideways on a power 1st to 2nd shift. I recovered. (The then wifey screamed)

Because of videos like this...and I've seen a few others, I've been reluctant to do a real power acceleration on city streets. I keep the Traction Control enabled, but the car is an automatic. I don't have the trust that I'd have with a manual transmission. But anyhow, my understanding is that as long as I have the Traction Control enabled, the car won't get sideways. ???

I really want to take the car to a drag strip. It's a base engine coupe with the
"performance" rear end...2.74:1 !!!!!!! Can you believe that? Anyhow, at the drag strip I assume I don't want any sideways problems (obviously), so I'd like to know how this guy went wrong. Thanks

Apparently the ending to this story is both drivers were not charged and later warrants for their arrests were issued. One of the drivers was a dude who was ripping off off people on web sales on car websites hahaha
