Amigos,
A friend is once again putting forth his PRISTINE 81 for sale encouraging me to buy it.

It is already 500% better than my POS will ever be.

My wife says buy it but I'm reluctant for a few reasons:

First, I'm a drive it hard kind of guy and this precious garage queen would soon match mine without daily polishes and pampering.

Second, The theme is a bit show car with etched roses and pinstripes that I can't abide.

Finally. I like the guy and can't imagine facing him when his garage queen is all dirty and horrible.

But, on the other hand, his car is so far ahead of what mine will be I wonder if I should just spend the 7500$ and pretend it's a new lexus?

Opinions please?

I'm not a guy that went out and had to have an 81 Vette. I'm a guy that bought a car I liked and suddenly discovered Vette if you get my drift...

Don't know total mileage but he says it's like 300 a year since he got it in 1984, The front and rear urethane is Perfect?

Buy the car, get rid of the stuff that bugs ya and run it hard. It came to me recently that I keep and save my cars nice so the next guy can take advantage of my pristine unit. Now it's your chance to put the shoe on the other foot.

A "pristine" '81 for $7500?

I don't know what the going price is for an 81, but it sounds like a good deal.

Pristine...

I've not driven it. It WILL suffer from all the seal leaks and other assorted maladies of being a garage queen. Two months into my ownership EVERYTHING that has not been excercised for twenty years will start breaking and leaking. I think.

By pristine I meant that all of the body joints are as perfect as GM could produce. I always ask myself when evaluating things, "would I have bought it new like this"?

The drivers door opens with a LIGHT touch on the outside door lever. The door shuts smoothly with no requirement to slam it. Once in you can see the mid dash has been customized with some wood overlay. All the instruments and switches are recessed cuz of the treatment. BUT, they all work.

Most striking to me is how the front and rear Urethanes look so perfect. The front seams match the body and all the under spoiler bit is there. Rear bit looks as if it belongs. No warps, weaves or wrinkles.

Down side is that I'm a driver, not a polisher. I'll take this lovely thing from perfection to average.

81's are selling on E-bay from 3500 to 10500 Dollars. Every one of the 3500 Dollar cars look better than mine.

Why would I defile this beauty on the one hand, pay half again it's value on the other hand?? My buddy just bought a nice 79 for $4000 after the poor sod (such as me) bought every new bit out of the catalogs... There's just no value yet in the average Shark

You could always get someone to wash and wax it for you - your own kids, the neighbour's kids or some detailing business that comes to your house.

Ha! After you buy it from him, pay your mate to come by once a fortnight and wash and wax it for you :D
