Looking to replace my leaky P/S pump, what kind of car should I look for at the scrapyard to find something compatible?

Any 70's era gm pump will work if you change the relief/flow valve/output fitting or the gasket kit costs around 10 bucks.

Cool, thanks for the info.
However, replacing a 40 years old P/S pump by another 40 years old one sounds risky to me (at least if I don't get a NOS or reman one).
Does some of pump for the 90's/00's era would fit.
Sorry, I should have been more specific in my question.

Thanks for the tip, that's what I did.
I expected it to be harder, this page really helped me.
However I had to go to a garage to have the pulley removed and replaced, it's a 76 and the pulley it press-fitted, don't have the equipement for that.
As soon as the borgeson setup is done, I'll let you know if my reseal was done the right way.

This link has a lot of write ups on rebuilding a Vette alllright.

Just for kicks anyone know if there are any lighter weight OEM type pumps that would be compatible with our antiques?

I'm probably buying one of those Summit Saginaw "2" pumps that have the reservoir mounted on the fender... I was planning on doing that when I install the PS rack....if things keep progressing as slow as they have over the past few months it will probably be 2013 but I'll let you know how it turned out ;)

dunno if those pumps are a lot lighter but they're not as bulky as the older style with the integrated reservoir...
