Jeez, no wonder it doesn't stay in it's lane!

Just my casual observation, but I'd say you got all the use from that coupler there was in it.
And then some.

I'll second on the DuctTape, but only the good stuff.

My 77 had a flexible coupler that was at least that crumbled. It tracked fine, but had really weird steering responses. Does yours have wear on the stop pins from the two metal halves of the coupler jamming together to make the car steer?

Yeah, both the pins & the slots show signs of banging on each other, one pin more so than the other. You can see a hint of it on the lower left side of the top pin in the picture. (Sorry, cell phone photo.)
The lamination on the right side at the ovaled hole is worn down through about 2 layers, you can see the edges of the screen where it wore through.
The big rip on the upper left is not quite as big as it looks, I folded it down a little to make the tear more obvious.
Jeesh, and I was driving it like this!?
It steered OK, the big thing that bothered me was it wandered and rain grooves & ruts really jerked it around. It would no longer hold a line. I thought it was just tires & alignment & my 40 year old rims that are no longer true. Luckily, posts here gave me the idea to look into this as well.

17" rims with good tires are in my plan for next year.
Anybody know of some inexpensive plain 17" X 8 or 9" rims that fit with stock calipers? I don't want fancy pretty wheels, just plain old black steeleys are fine, or something else fairly plain. Something along the lines of theses:

Summit sells this style wheel (US Wheel) ??? These are cheap at $60 a piece and they come in 17x8 so you can run a 255/45 tire and fill the fender without lowering too much....
Your's a '73 ?? Stock style rallies in 17" would look pretty sharp too
