HELP...What am I missing

Looks like a return to the period 2004 to 2008 when prices for vintage car parts soared. To me the most extraordinary ebay auction was for an air cleaner WING NUT. A NOS wing nut was auctioned with a buy now price of $50. This was a wing nut that was original for my 68 Corvette. (It was the same wing nut for a many year models of other GM cars.) I bought my air cleaner wing nut from Volunteer Vettes and it cost $4.00. I told the guy at Volunteer Vettes that a NOS wing nut was going for $50. He laughed. He said their $4 wing nuts were made by a source using the exact tooling as the NOS wing nuts and also, as far as he knew, plated just like the NOS wing nuts. Here in 2011, my little wingy nuty thing is bright and shiny.

After watching a early c3 original oil pan drain bolt go for over 120 bucks a couple of years back (Fleabay), I keep every original piece (of shit) that comes off my ride....got about 5 or 6 boxes of garbage....even the original engine internals......
