GREAT JOB!!!!!
I've had Guildstrand work on my cars. My latest was the 68 After several years of doing all the work my self, I really wanted to get it on the road. I had some things to do on it that might even take me a year left to do.. I had the car trucked to Guildstand's. (Actually Guildstrand MotorSports). Things to do:
1) Check all my torque settings on the suspension components. Working by myself, I often only hand torqued up fasteners since I was concerned I'd have to undo them later. Then I forgot about them. Guildstrand found several untorqued fasteners.
2) Alignment. Couldn't do that myself. Guildstrand did a four wheel alignment.
3) Front wheel spring tower strut bar. They added one to the car. Small welding job required. Dick Guildstrand thought this was a really needed item.
4) With an all new brake system..all new component parts, I used silicon brake fluid and had a slightly soft pedal. Guidstrand's employees made this pedal stone hard, even with silicon.
5) I had Hedman Hedder sidepipe headers to match up to a stock 69 factory sidepipe exhaust system. Guildstrand did the welding to match up the Hedman hedders to the stock factory exhaust.
6) I had some problems with the Holley fuel regulator for the carb. The regulator needed adjusted. It was adjusted correctly.
7) I wanted the suspension set up for understeer. I didn't want torque throttle off oversteer. I'm not going to be driving competition ...I don't want the back end of the car to every overtake me..Guildstrand was in agreement...no rear anti-roll bar.
Bottom Line?? Labor was $4000 for 40 hours of work about 5 years ago. The mechanic that did almost all the work on my car was a FAA certified airline mechanic.
I could go on about work on my 69 Corvette....bottom line..Guildstrand is expensive but for every episode, his service is cost effective in that problems are solved. I don't think he's a money grabber...My 69 needed a new rear end transverse spring due to an accident, he had one where a customer exchanged his spring for a competition spring, so Dick gave me the spring for free. And so on...
