    Protecting a machined flywheel surface

Picked up a nice, previously resurfaced 168 tooth GM flywheel at an estate sale today. It already has a few spots of light surface rust, and I intend to clean the surface with brake cleaner to make sure that any contaminants are washed away before storing it. However, I'm not sure what to use...

    Kit cars/bodies I wish existed

Top of the list: an Aston Martin DB5 body. I've run across an article where some chap in England was making one, but it was just a one-off. It'd be fun to build one up with something crazy like a BMW V10 and fully-independent suspension.

Old treadmills: the buffalo of exercise equipment

There's not much on these things that can't be re-used or recycled. Nice steel frames, good hardware (usually grade 5)...and best of all, most have DC motors with PWM speed controllers that are great for converting tools with AC motors to much more useful devices with easy speed control. This...

Two thumbs up for Cornwell Tools

Earlier this year, I found a nice, older Cornwell 1/2" drive socket set and a bunch of end wrenches while looking for a rolling tool cabinet. The seller was the original owner, who bought everything new while working as a professional mechanic in 1960. The price was more than fair, so I didn't...

Most forums that I participate in use similar software to this one, and have a "new posts since your last visit" search option. Any chance we could get that here?

Not as fancy as some of the cool toys I see here...

...but I found a nice 110V US-made ESAB plasma cutter with built-in air supply at a local electronic salvage store. Got out the door with it for $225. Just need a new electrode and it'll be ready to go!

    Ignition shielding

The ignition shielding for my 77 is long gone (it was missing when my dad bought the car 22+ years ago), and as a result there has always been an annoying high frequency whine in the radio. I'm curious as to what any of you guys might have done to shield the ignition system without using the...

    Cooling fan question

My '77 currently has one of the legendary mid-90s Lincoln Mk. VIII fans installed, driven by a DC Controls variable-speed module. However, I trimmed the shroud a bit too much and the blade touches the radiator on the higher speed setting (which it never sees unless I trip the override switch, I...

Still a work in progress, but a very useful shop tool I built

...a portable, folding welding table! My dad was going to toss out the frame of a Black & Decker Workmate bench that he'd had for 30+ years because the tops were cut to pieces. About $40 worth of metal and some welding, and I now have a nice welding table that stays out of the way when not in use!

    WTB: 77-82 black sunvisors

At least the driver's side, would prefer a pair in good shape with smooth hinges. My driver's side visor is completely torn free of the hinge inside, and the passenger side is weak.
