    Reed's 78 Corvette TH2004R Swap

Thanks! I had thought the crossmember would be the hardest part of the swap, but it was actually the easiest. Its around 21-2200 RPM. The same guys who did the trans rebuild supplied the convertor (Neal Racing, the link is above). I have used their stuff for years, and been very pleased with it.

    electrolysis rust removal

I have had good luck using vinegar myself...its great on pitted, but otherwise good sheetmetal, and for rusty tools. I'll have to try the electroysis method sometime, thanks for sharing!

Anyone who has removed an undamaged C3 front clip please help

This is on an '81. I know, most say don't remove the front clip unless its damaged and being replaced, but mine has some rust in the birdcage at the top edge of the fender, and the only way to properly address it is to take the clip off. I have it unbolted at the front, and the strip going...

    Reed's 78 Corvette TH2004R Swap

If the stock shifter had been in the car still, I would have used it along with a Shiftworks conversion, but it was gone and the guys who put in the TCI trans recessed the Quicksilver into a steel box a few inches below the floor. Fortunately, it wasn't deep enough to cause interference with the...

    Reed's 78 Corvette TH2004R Swap

When I first talked to Reed, it was about an issue he was having with the shifter (B&M Quicksilver). He told me the trans was a TCI TH350 with a reverse pattern manual valve body; way overkill/mismatched for a nice cruiser like this. The convertor in the thing stalled at around 3400, way above...

    Reed's 78 Corvette TH2004R Swap

Here are some pics of a 78 Vette that I recently put a TH2004R transmission in (sorry about the orientation of the pics; not sure how to correct that on here). The crossmember needed only to have the bolt on TH350 mounting portion removed, and the trans attached directly to the crossmember. I...

Can someone PLEASE help me understand why a 200r4

Spending that kind of cash on an automatic, though, you could get a TH2004r that would hold the power. From the right builder, you could probably get a 4L80E. Most of the really quick Buick GNs are still running the 200 trans, and before someone says "thats just a V6", they make ungodly torque...

Can someone PLEASE help me understand why a 200r4

I like the Th2004R, in the right car, but like everything else its not a one size fits all. We have a local builder that does a very good job with these transmissions, for a reasonable price, and I had him build one for my parents' '63 Impala convertible. While its heavy, its just a...

Anyone ever adapt a Ford 8.8 IRS to a C3?

Honestly, I don't think it will be that hard. Granted, my Vette is an 81, and has the aluminum rear now, so it may be easier to lose the batwing and mount it more like the early rears...its going to take some playing around, but it should be doable. I might even be able to use a machined adapter...

Anyone ever adapt a Ford 8.8 IRS to a C3?

If I do this, I will just use the center section and maybe the CV shafts if that can be worked out...I would most likely use custom halfshafts. The biggest advantage would be strength over the stock C3 gearset, and I would imagine even an advantage over one of the 12 bolt conversions, since...

Anyone ever adapt a Ford 8.8 IRS to a C3?

I'm going 4.10, but only because I am using a T56 with a .50 overdrive, and that will give me a very good mix of performance and fuel economy (my much heavier 97 SS got over 25mpg with that combination, with an engine with far less torque). 2300 rpms at 85mph!

Anyone ever adapt a Ford 8.8 IRS to a C3?

The earlier ones are going to mostly be 2.73s or 3.27s, but I'm pretty sure the later ones (Cobra) had more gear. Motorsport gearsets are cheap compared to the good Vette stuff, and available anywhere. 2.73, 3.08, 3.27, 3.55, 3.73, 4.10 , 4.30, 4.56...pretty good selection. Not sure if the posis...
