It might be a bit late lol. But I am having a manual valve body put into my Turbo 400 while in for a good rebuild. Eventually this will go behind my 468 BB in my 73 with a 3000 Stahl TQ back to 3.73 gears. :)

The only thing I can think of that might cause such a problem is maybe the trans is out of alignment with the engine. Check your alignment pins to be sure there is no binding and things line up correctly.

As far as Tremec Goes Keisler is bye bye. Unless they purchase them retail like anyone else. As for this new 5 speed by McLoad Keisler talked themselves right out of them. I have said it before and I will say it again Classic Chevy 5 Speed which is now under HURST would be worth looking into. :)
