Qjet carb spacer...

Seen thick spacer/heat gaskets for Qjets, but under the one on the Clamper project was this weird looking thing with wire mesh tits on it....

about 3/8" thick....

anyone have any clue why? is it GM?? or who??

Lars will be the one that knows about that one. I recall seeing something like that, but it was also electric and heated those screens. Don't know if it was a GM thing or some hocus-pocus to divide you and your wallet

I saw a piece of metal one in front wrapped under to contact the intake....one on top/rear to contact carb....

but nothing in the middle to connect either piece of metal to the screens.....

and those screens are/were actually double screens of two different meshes....

so now I have 4 tits....

That gasket was sold as a gas mileage improver and flame arrester (to eliminate backfire). The screen was supposed to atomize the fuel better. JCWhitney sold them - I don't think they sold them for more than a couple of years, as you can imagine. I've never seen or heard of one with a heated screen - can't imagine how you would put an electrically heated screen in a 14.7:1 stoichiometric mixture without blowing up...
