C3 Rear Suspension Q

I have a custom differential and I am concerned about the side loading of the output shafts when tied into the rear suspension. I have converted mine to the early C4 suspension. I also need to mention the new diff is considerably wider than the stock Dana 36 so will that change the geometry significantly?
The diff is a Dana 44 but it is cast iron and the output yokes are similar to a 9 inch ford. It has pressed on bearings with a seal and a plate. The yoke bolts to the output shaft. I am concerned the seal will not take the stress of the side loading of a C4 Rear Suspension.
Any ideas???
If too great I would need to add the link for a 6 link but not really sure how to attach to the C4 spindles. Then how long to make the upper link and at what angle? This is a street car- toy.
-Thanks,
Charlie

You say stock Dana 36? C3s never came with a 36, only a 44 in 80-82 and a cast iron Dana much like the eartn in 63 and I think 64.

A cast iron Dana 44? Is it a converted Jeep center section? What exactly is it? Any pics?

The upper links need to either work with the rest of the geometry and share the instantaneous center set by the lower struts and halfshaft itself or you need to take the halfshaft out of the equation by having either telescopic/slip shafts or a sliding yoke which can't be done if yours has a clamped down bearing w/ retainer.

The short stub axle to which the yoke bolts, it's butted against an internal component or is it floating? If it's a D44 it should have C clips and sit against a center pin. The bearings with retainer plate are most likely part of some IRS conversion. Again, need pics to confirm. If this is the case, you can use it like the stock diff.

Pics

Here are some pics of what I have done so far. I got this diff from E-bay and I am the first one to put oil in it. No one has been able to tell me what it is out of. The best guess is a Zamboni. I have a local made adapter for the Dana 36 Batwing. I converted the car to front and rear 84 Corvette suspension. The car was awesome to drive but I was worried the Dana 36 wouldn't hold up to a few ponies and my 6 speed. Yes the car is a 1971 Stingray.
-Thanks for any insights on this one.

That looks like a Dana 60. Holy crap what a great find. You will never be able to wreck that one. There was a guy on CF selling soemthing like that some time ago, did you buy it there? I know Jim 427Hotrod has a similar setup.

Excellent

Thanks!
Its a monster- I bought it on E-bay for $150 plus shipping from a Jeep guy who didn't know what it was- I am still not sure. It should be bullet proof! 4.11 ratio and I put the limited slip in and the rear cover is the Dana 44 bolt pattern. Can I just machine C-Clips on the shafts and pop them back in? Good to go?
-Thanks
Charlie

Mock up Driveshafts

Does anyone think that I could machine a notch and put in a C clip to keep axle in correct place? I took some pics with a mock up driveshaft (the one from the Dana 36 which the suspension was used) and I think it looks ok if I can just be sure the output yokes are compatible?
