    BBC water pump trouble

Hi, I was going quick, 5000+rpm at 3rd gear when I saw a small puff of something it my rear view mirror. Upshifted and accelerated some more but then I got a feeling that something is wrong and I eased off. When I was back at about 60mph I started to hear intermittent and loud knocking sound...

    Braided Fuel Line recommendation?

Its ethanol that attacks the rubber hoses so I think its the same in Europe too. I don't think anybody really knows what other additives do in the long run. I chose teflon but I think if you are carefull and replace rubber hoses every now and then (2-3 years?) you will be ok.

    Fuel line for EFI, type?

Return to old thread. Finally received my car in mid of June. But, my EFI installation still pending due problems in getting all the needed parts for the fuel line  Today we finally got the Earl's -8AN Speed Flex teflon hose for the project. It was special order item from our vendor and...

    Fuel line for EFI, type?

While investigating hoses I think I saw somewhere a note that your Coastguard has their own certification for hoses which are used in boats. So, just like you might see something approved by FAA or FIA some stuff might also be okeyed by the Coastguard. That should count for something. At least...

    Fuel line for EFI, type?

Thanks for your input. My original interpretation of "oxygenated fuel" was incorrect. My english failed me there. Most commonly it is infact a fuel type where alcohol is used as oxygenating agent (very common these days). This type of fuel can detetoriate rubber hoses the way earlier fuels...

    Fuel line for EFI, type?

Problem with rubber lines in the abovementioned oxidated fuel case is that they deterioratate from inside faster than outside. I've had rubber lines in my old cars and you can see when they need to changed but if they go from inside there is no visible warning. This is also problem with braided...

    Fuel line for EFI, type?

After further investigation it seems that all braided rubber lines die quicker than normal if used with EFI systems + a return line. And they all more or less let the gas smell through. Accelerated detetoriation is caused by recirculated oxidized fuel which attacks the rubber line. If I...

    Fuel line for EFI, type?

Thanks for your input. No, haven't considered aluminum either. BTW. the '91 Helm manual specifically warns about using aluminum or copper tubing for fuel lines. They state alu and copper will not last due vibration. So, probably good idea to support alu lines well too. EDIT: oh Mrvette already...

    Fuel line for EFI, type?

Thats great. A direct question: has anybody have a big brand braided fuel line fail? How old and what brand, why did it fail? Thanks.

    Fuel line for EFI, type?

I've read that too, the brand was Russell. Infact seen several (3) accounts of fuel smell with Russell hoses. They did not leak fluid but let some gas smell through. The hard lines are used by the car manufacturers because they are not considered service parts and quite often last the life of a...

    Fuel line for EFI, type?

Yes, I know. You can assume I plan to use best of line by a name brand. I will investigate the teflon hoses too. In my business as a part of machinery I sell 30ft 500bar hydraulic hoses to my customers. They are good for approx 3 years of hard field use with varying 0-520bar oil pressure. I...

    Fuel line for EFI, type?

There is no question about it: hard lines are more durable. But I am looking for experiences about the braided lines. I have no place or tools to make decent hards lines so I hope the braided lines would do (safely). I can get Aeroquip and Earl's hoses made to order locally so it would be a easy...

    Fuel line for EFI, type?

Thanks for the comments. Anybody have any idea of durability of the braided lines? Good or bad experiences with them?
