I'm just starting to assemble a motor. I have a freshly honed Motown block. It was boiled and cleaned after machining but I want to go through it and make sure no metal shards are hiding inside the oil passages. The gallery plugs on these blocks are threaded but I still want to apply sealer. I had Permatex 1 (cures hard) and Permatex aviation gasket maker suggested. Any other thoughts?

Try Loctite 545 or 567. We use it as a thread sealant for hydraulic applications. The 567 is for higher temperature applications and is what we use most often.

Here is a link top the cut sheet:

Permatex high performance thread sealant #56521. Get it at any parts store.
