I'm in the process of modding a 4 speed and need to make a custom shift rod. I bought a strait one with one threaded end and the shifter hookup on the other end. These things are made of some tough metal. Any hints on bending one?????
Oh be still my heart....my dream girl...
So how long have you been hanging onto that link until you found the perfect thread
Btw, the old shifter rods were 7/16" fine thread rod. New ones are 3/8" fine thread. At least it should be easier to bend. But that's not such a good thing with shifter linkages.
I was actually fitting a Muncie shifter on an 82 f body T10 (has the oddball tail shaft with torque arm). I had to make a new mounting plate and was able to reuse the reverse and 3/4 shift rods.
A little heat from an oxy/acetylene torch allowed me to bend a strait shift rod easily. Thanks all, including the inspiration from Wonder Woman:bounce:
