Have you seen the "tremendous" movable wing in the Chaparral?

Imagine a driver who don't remember to change the downforce from null to full before the corner........ a gun shot is less dangerous! ;-)

Yea, you are right. That's what killed Bruce McLaren, loss of down force.

" Bruce McLaren died (aged 32) when his Can-Am car crashed on the Lavant Straight just before Woodcote corner at Goodwood Circuit in England on 2 June 1970. He had been testing his new M8D when the rear body work came adrift at speed. The loss of aerodynamic downforce destabilized the car, which spun, left the track and hit a bunker used as a flag station."

It was my understanding that the wing default position was max downforce/max drag. Also, given that there was not a clutch pedal in the cars all braking was done by the driver's left foot, which also manually positioned the wing in the low drag position down the straightaways.
