The car has been sitting for about 15 months, so this leak may be related...

I don't think it was leaking before, but discovered fluid leaking where the speedometer cable goes into the transmission. Checked and found the fitting hold the cable was loose. Problem is the fitting is nearly impossible to reach so it can be tightened. Is there a special tool?

Thanks, Jerry

yeah, 82's are especially crappy to reach. Adjustable pliers will do the trick.

My guess is you need to replace the o-ring on the cable adapter and the shaft seal that is inside it. PITA to get to, but is you want to stop the leak-----:hunter:

TT & TimAT, Thanks for the response. I suspected as much on the o-ring, but didn't know about the seal. Looking at it a bit more I noticed the cross member that runs underneath the point where the speedometer cable enters the transmission is removable. I'll look into how much effort that might take. In the meanwhile, it's a slow leak and I'm trying to get the car back together so my daughter can use it in her wedding. It's nearly done, so I may let it go until fall.

Thanks again for the advice.
