Is the tilt knuckle the cause of this? I see them new for 150 bucks, will this cure the issue I have

Welcome to the world of c4 columns, hard to get in and out and obese pigs, they all have this and it is due to dragging your ass out of the car by the steering wheel, the tilt knuckle is the cause and where on the c3's you can get away with tightening up the pivot pins to get the slack out on c4s it's more likely the housing has worn and the holes are elongated.....

Make sure it is bolted under the dash good. Mine could be pushed up and there is a V shaped attachment bracket that was bending. You can tell if the play is in the joint or the whole column from undrneath.

mine is side to side movement of the steering wheel. I did some reading about this problem and some mention a shim kit.
