I want to buy 4 wheel dollies so that I can move my Vette around a bit easier. I want to get them while I'm home to save on the killer shipping if I have them shipped to Saudi.

Anyways, what max weight dollies should I go for? What sort of weight "footprint" is at each wheel on an 82?

These dollies are usually around $150 for the set of four, I got mine from Summit because of the low shipping charges ($11.95) .. it's not a truck freight item although it's very heavy.
These are the dollies I got, 6000lbs rating:

I found numerous dollies for under $100 but shipping was $80-$100 - and that's in the US :banghead:

I see these are ball bearing casters. Excellent! Years ago I bought a set that just had bushings in the axles. I could move the car around reasonably well, but it just took a noticeable increase in effort as the vehicle weight increased. I always doublecheck for bearings, now.

Thanks guys. I'm trying to source some here in Oz but not having much luck (yet?) Those Summit ones look great but they won't tell how much shipping would be until I begin the checkout process!!

These hydraulic dollies are awesome and $240 for a set of four is a good deal.... note the shipping charges ... $100 in the US... kinda high but these things are heavy....

If you cannot buy them in Aussie Land then see if a local shop can make them. I can send you close up photos of my dollies and sketches with the dimensions if needed - it's just a 1/4" plate and four casters per dolly.....

They really are nice,a couple pumps on the pedal and move the car anywhere in the garage. I can almost afford them at that price.

Damn, those hydraulic ones look nice and that's a bril price.

Anyway, I found some here in Oz but to get the ones rated for 450kg, the actual dollies weigh 20kg EACH! So me, Christine and Sam would have to travel back to Saudi in our underpants so we could carry 80kg of luggage!

Once I'm back there Karsten, I'll take you up on your offer thanks mate. I can get casters of all shapes and sizes in Saudi and I could easily get some steel cut up and bent.

I had a set (4) of "GoJak" in Germany. We used them all over the shop. Roll so easy with one person even on a pretty gritty floor. We also used then in parking lots to get vehicles out of tight spots when we were not able to get our MAN crane tow truck in safely to lift a car out.

The other type where you must put the wheel in a roller tray are crap. Too much work. you can use 4 GoJak type dollies with one person put 'em on and move a car in under 5 minutes if you really hustle with out breaking a sweat.

 That's slicker than snot on a brass doorknob....

I do like those GoJak ones Todd, a lot easier than jacking the car first. Expensive though.

You're right Karsten, shipping's a killer

Wayne, I am sure there are just alike items out there that are a lot cheaper. If they are not going to be used in an industrial environment (used all the time) I would go for some much cheaper ones.
same thing here only 99 a pop :twitch:

I got a set of these when I got the Kwik-Lift.

Bit of a PITA to jack the car and set it back down on these, but they work just fine. I laid some short 2x4's across so the tires have something to set on other than the edges of the steel. Makes if real easy to move the car. No brakes on them, so care is the word. Push too hard and it might go somewhere you didn't want it too.

OH SHIT, good comment, and you seen where my car would go, right into the neighbor's new Caddy.....

Ha! I'm certain there'd something available out here, but it's a matter of finding the place that sells them. There's no rhyme or reason to this place and the pissy little book that passes for their Yellow Pages is mostly incorrect. I have a mental map of shops that have stuff I need or want but I found all of them by word of mouth and walking around. It's hard to imagine a society that's so disorganized when we're used to "normality" at home.

There's plenty of shops that could make something like that Karsten and steel's cheap as chips. However, even though there's loads of shops that sell castors, all the ones I've seen are in various boxes of the same type castor - no weight or load capacity etc and if you asked the shop keeper, he'll tell you whatever it takes to make a sale.

I'll get around to it one day. I mainly wanted them when I was doing the body work and primer but that's all done now so don't really need them. I still WANT a set though

Special took # J10005.5 bought after doing it the HARD way, then sets on the shelf forever....
