I've got friends that have cracked it and are running the latest version for free. There's an outlaw site called Valdez or Juarez or some such.
I'm not in favor of such and don't run their cracks. But after my last go-round trying to move my LEGAL software I was very close to saying screw you and running the crack. In the end though my AutoCad LT 2005 ran so I was happy.

Don't know about AutoCad for free but the base version of Google Sketchup is free.

It is a 3D package but can be used for 2D stuff as well. I'm using it to design a house. Works well for my needs.

Be cautious of the "WAREZ" sites. SOme of the programs work fine, but there could be this little tiny virus or keystroke logger embedded in there.
