I've removed the halfshafts and u-joints. They were marked with paint so I could re-install in same position. I would like to clean them up before installing. What's a good way to make a permanent mark on the halfshaft?

Thanks, Jerry

You could centerpunch a mark on the u-joint flange. I think they should be able to go back in any position however.

Doesn't matter, they are not balanced. Look and you may see a "mark" from a previous rebuilder such as crushed tube at the yoke ends.

Thanks for the quick replies. I did not realize they're not balanced, but it will make the rest of the job easier. :yahoo: No marks on the shafts, just corrosion. It did have Spicers, so I think the u-joints had been replaced. One on the drivers side was getting pretty dry.

Now I'll clean up the shafts, order the replacement Spicers, new shocks and get it back on the road.

Thanks again for your help.
