Does any one know where I can get or borrow a tool for taking the pivot pins out of a steering column?

Also where is a good place to buy parts? Are there any complete kits available?

The original tool # is j-21854-1

Had them out several times, first off the release the spring pressure on the locking mechanism....easy do, really was self evident to me....

then a 8-32 or 10-32? screw into the pin centers, and just pull or maybe lever with long nose or side cutters on a stick of wood fulcrum....

Working from memory but at least one of Jim Shea's steering papers had instructions for building a homemade tool. Don't know if it is the tool you need or not but might be worth a look.

A piece of (or a real long screw) threaded rod, a nut, a flat washer, and a socket bigger than than the OD of the pivot pin. Screw the rod into the pivot pin, passing thru the socket, with the flatwaher and nut on top. Hold the screw from turning, tighten the nut, and out it comes. Don't forget to take the tilt spring out lest you shoot parts all over.

this is the way to do it. no need for a "special" tool. the thread size is 8-32.
