Other than price, what is the purpose of the factories going to TTY bolts???

even alumnum heads are fine without them on a iron block even....

why bother with all that replacement crap.....

does ARP make good old bolts we can just wind down on till the clicker gives and get over with it???

decent dash of RTV is my favorite lube, that a way the oil/water seems to be stopped from sliding up the heads....

Other than rust/corrosion I have REused GM bolts for decades, never an issue....this engine came with ARPs already.....but I had to wonder, why bother....

I too have used and reused good GM bolts in the past. But the one thing that I see with older stock head bolts is corrosion in the thread area from sitting in water. While I've never broken an older bolt, the potential is there due to the weakening of the corroded bolt. I don't mind reusing good (not damaged) stock main bolts whenever possible and have never broken any of those either. I do however recommend NEW head bolts when building a NEW motor. When that motor gets freshened up or rebuilt, then I'll reuse those bolts again. I don't buy into this torque once then discard theory that OEM's are claiming now.
